The House Crushing the Wicked Witch of the East

Dorothy awakens to find the house has landed gently in a beautiful country of lush grass, fruit trees, and sparkling brooks. As she steps outside, she is greeted by a group of oddly dressed little people—the Munchkins—and the Witch of the North. They explain that the house has fallen on the Wicked Witch of the East, killing her and freeing the Munchkins from long bondage. Dorothy sees the Witch's feet, shod in silver shoes, sticking out from under a corner of the house. The Witch of the North tells Dorothy that she is now considered a sorceress and that the silver shoes are hers. This event sets Dorothy on her quest, as she learns she must go to the Emerald City to ask the Great Oz for help returning to Kansas.
