Encounter with M. Bouc

While dining at the hotel, Poirot is greeted by his old friend M. Bouc, a director of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons Lits. They agree to travel together on the Orient Express. Poirot also notices a sinister American, Mr. Ratchett, and his secretary, Hector MacQueen, in the restaurant. Poirot feels a distinct impression of evil emanating from Ratchett, comparing him to a wild animal behind a respectable facade.
