Silas's Penance

Silas returns to his residence on Rue La Bruyère and reports to his mysterious master, the Teacher, that he has killed the four top members of the Priory of Sion. He reveals that the keystone is hidden in the Church of Saint-Sulpice. The Teacher instructs him to retrieve it immediately. Before leaving, Silas performs a ritual of corporal mortification, using a spiked cilice belt and a knotted rope called the Discipline to inflict pain on himself as penance for his sins, believing that pain is good and serves the Lord.
