The Council of Elrond

In Rivendell, Elrond convenes a council of representatives from the free peoples of Middle-earth. The history of the Ring is recounted, and it is decided that the Ring must be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. Frodo volunteers to take the Ring, and the Fellowship of the Ring is formed to accompany him.
