Arrival of the Soldiers Commander Cherrystone A detachment of Gale Force soldiers, led by Commander Cherrystone, arrives at Kiamo Ko. They claim to be conducting a survey. Nor's Welcome Nor, Fiyero's daughter, welcomes them and shows them around. She is fascinated by the soldiers. Elphaba's Suspicion Elphaba is away, but she later learns of their presence and is immediately suspicious.

The Kidnapping The Soldiers' True Mission When Elphaba is gone, the soldiers reveal their true purpose: to take Sarima and her family hostage. They chain them and march them away. Resistance Sarima's sisters fight back, but they are overpowered. The children are terrified. Liir Left Behind Liir is left behind because he is not considered a threat. He later tries to follow but is tied up and left in a barn.

Elphaba's Search

Elphaba's Search Return to an Empty Castle Elphaba returns to find Kiamo Ko deserted. Nanny tells her what happened. Attempts to Find Them Elphaba spends years trying to locate Sarima and her family. She bribes agents, spies, and even consults Princess Nastoya, but finds nothing. The Wizard's Revelation Years later, the Wizard tells Elphaba that Sarima and her sisters are dead, and Irji was executed. Nor is kept as a slave.

Elphaba's Bargain Elphaba tries to trade the Grimmerie for Nor's freedom, but the Wizard refuses. Nor remains a pawn. A Glimmer of Hope After the Wizard's fall, Nor's fate is uncertain. Liir later searches for her in the Emerald City.

The Fate of Sarima and the Others Sarima's Death The Wizard claims Sarima and her sisters were killed by overzealous underlings. The exact circumstances are unknown. Irji's Execution Irji, as the heir, was publicly executed via the Paraffin Necklace to make an example. Elphaba's Guilt Elphaba blames herself for not being there to protect them. Their loss deepens her despair and fuels her hatred of the Wizard.
