Milla

Milla is a Gillikinese student at Shiz University, part of the social circle that includes Galinda (later Glinda), Pfannee, and Shenshen. She is first introduced as a new friend of Galinda's at Crage Hall, where the girls gossip about Elphaba's poverty and green skin. Milla is characterized by her wealth and social ambition, and she is part of the group that mocks Elphaba behind her back. She is also present at the poetry soiree where Madame Morrible recites her controversial Quells, and she is among the students who witness the aftermath of Doctor Dillamond's murder.

Life and Marriage

Milla later marries Boq, a Munchkinlander from Rush Margins. The marriage is a surprising turn of events, as Boq had previously been infatuated with Galinda. Milla is dragged out to Nest Hardings in Munchkinland, where she hates the rural life. She attempts suicide multiple times, and Boq's letters to friends describe her failed attempts as a sort of annual family report. Despite her struggles, Milla and Boq have several children, and she eventually becomes more settled, though she retains a sharp tongue and a pragmatic outlook.

Relationships and Conflict

Milla's relationship with Boq is strained by her unhappiness in Munchkinland. She is also wary of Elphaba, whom she sees as a potential threat. When Elphaba visits Boq and Milla's farm years later, Milla is initially hostile, but she eventually shows a grudging respect for Elphaba's past activism. Milla is also critical of Nessarose, whom she calls a tyrant. She is a practical woman who focuses on her family and farm, and she is not afraid to speak her mind.

Change and Ending

Milla's character arc shows a transition from a frivolous, wealthy student to a hardworking farm wife. She never fully embraces her life in Munchkinland, but she learns to cope with it. She is present when Elphaba visits to ask about Dorothy and the silver shoes, and she warns Elphaba against pursuing the child. Milla's final appearance is in the aftermath of Nessarose's death, where she and Boq discuss the political situation in Munchkinland. She remains a minor but memorable character, embodying the struggles of a woman trapped in a life she did not choose.
