The city is bombed
As Montag and the wanderers sit by the fire, the war that has been threatening finally erupts. Jets fly overhead, and the city is destroyed by bombs. Montag witnesses the annihilation of the city, including his wife Mildred, who is killed in the blast. He feels a mix of grief and relief, and he remembers his past with Mildred.
