The monster decides to approach the blind De Lacey, hoping that the old man will not be prejudiced by his appearance. He enters the cottage and speaks with De Lacey, who is kind and sympathetic. However, before the monster can fully explain himself, Felix, Agatha, and Safie return. They are horrified by the monster's appearance, and Felix violently drives him away.
