Future, during the Third Spirit's visit
Businessmen Discuss a Death
The Phantom takes Scrooge to the Royal Exchange, where a group of businessmen are talking. They discuss the death of a man, with one saying, 'I only know he's dead.' They speculate about his money and joke about his funeral being cheap, with one offering to go if a lunch is provided. Scrooge knows the men and looks to the Spirit for an explanation. The Phantom then points to two other businessmen who meet and briefly exchange words, with one saying, 'Old Scratch has got his own at last, hey?' Scrooge is puzzled but resolves to treasure up every word, suspecting a latent moral for his own improvement.
