Christmas Day, morning

Scrooge Sends the Prize Turkey to the Cratchits

Scrooge, in a burst of generosity, asks the boy if the poulterer's shop has sold the prize turkey that was hanging up. He instructs the boy to go and buy it, promising him a shilling, or half-a-crown if he returns in less than five minutes. The boy is off like a shot. Scrooge whispers to himself that he will send it to Bob Cratchit's, and that it is twice the size of Tiny Tim. He writes the address, though his hand is not steady, and goes downstairs to open the street door. When the poulterer's man arrives with the enormous turkey, Scrooge pays for it and a cab to deliver it to Camden Town, chuckling with delight.
