Anne's Bringing-up Begins

Marilla begins the task of 'bringing up' Anne, teaching her practical skills and religious lessons. Anne is eager to learn but struggles with her tendency to daydream. Marilla gives her a card with the Lord's Prayer to memorize. Anne, fascinated by a picture of 'Christ Blessing Little Children,' imagines herself as one of the children. Marilla scolds her for being 'irreverent' but is secretly touched. Anne also expresses her longing for a 'bosom friend,' and Marilla mentions Diana Barry.
