Anne and Diana have imagined the spruce grove near Green Gables as a 'Haunted Wood,' complete with ghosts and headless men. When Marilla sends Anne through it on an errand after dark, Anne is terrified. Marilla, discovering the cause, forces Anne to walk through it to cure her of her foolish imaginings. Anne learns a lesson about letting her imagination run away with her.
