The Amethyst Brooch Incident

Marilla's prized amethyst brooch goes missing. Anne admits to having taken it to look at it but insists she put it back. Marilla does not believe her and, after a thorough search, accuses Anne of losing it. Anne, desperate to attend the picnic, falsely confesses to dropping it in the Lake of Shining Waters. Marilla punishes her by forbidding her from going to the picnic. This incident tests the trust between Anne and Marilla.
