The Witch Destroys a Merry Party

The Witch's sledge stops near a group of woodland creatures—squirrels, satyrs, a dwarf, and a fox—who are celebrating with food and drink given by Father Christmas. Enraged, the Witch turns them all to stone with her wand, despite Edmund's plea for mercy. She strikes Edmund for his interference. This event deepens Edmund's regret and horror at his alliance with the Witch, as he sees the innocent creatures frozen forever.
