Carlotta's Croak

During the performance, Carlotta suddenly croaks like a toad, 'Co-ack!' The audience is horrified, and the managers, in Box Five, are terrified, feeling the ghost's presence. They hear a voice saying, 'She is singing to-night to bring the chandelier down!' At that moment, the chandelier crashes down from the ceiling, killing the concierge who had replaced Mme. Giry. The performance is thrown into chaos, and Carlotta is humiliated.
