the night after the attack
Jim Cuts the Hispaniola Adrift
Jim paddles his coracle to the Hispaniola and cuts the anchor cable, setting the ship adrift. He hears two men, Israel Hands and another, quarrelling in the cabin. The current carries the ship out of the anchorage, and Jim, in his coracle, is swept along with it. He falls asleep, exhausted.
