The Empty Pit

The pirates reach the tall tree and find a large excavation. The treasure is gone—only a broken pick and empty boxes remain. The mutineers are furious and turn on Silver, accusing him of trickery. Silver, with Jim, stands apart, ready to defend himself. Suddenly, shots ring out from the bushes, and three mutineers fall. The doctor, Gray, and Ben Gunn emerge, having ambushed the pirates.
