Emma tells Harriet about Frank and Jane

Emma must now tell Harriet that Frank Churchill is engaged to Jane Fairfax. To her astonishment, Harriet is not upset. She reveals that she never cared for Frank Churchill; her heart was always set on Mr. Knightley. Emma is forced to listen as Harriet details all the signs she believes show Mr. Knightley's preference for her. Emma's own hopes are crushed, and she is left in a state of despair.
