Mrs. Elton visits Hartfield

Mrs. Elton pays a formal visit to Hartfield. She is full of herself, comparing Hartfield unfavourably to her brother's estate, Maple Grove, and offering to introduce Emma to the best society in Bath. She also proposes that she and Emma form a musical club. Emma is insulted and disgusted by Mrs. Elton's presumption and vulgarity, finding her even worse than she had imagined.
