The John Knightleys visit Hartfield

Emma's sister Isabella, her husband John Knightley, and their five children arrive for their annual Christmas visit. The house is filled with bustle and joy, which soothes Mr. Woodhouse's nerves. The visit provides a contrast to Emma's usual social circle and introduces the sensible, if sometimes irritable, John Knightley. The family dynamics are explored, including John's tendency to be sharp with Mr. Woodhouse, which Emma dislikes.
