Harriet returns the Martins' visit

Emma, hoping to prevent any renewal of intimacy, arranges for Harriet to make a brief, formal return visit to the Martins. Harriet is driven to Abbey Mill Farm and picked up after only a quarter of an hour. The visit is stiff and painful, and Emma feels a pang of guilt for the way she has treated the worthy Martin family. She consoles herself by visiting Randalls.
