Mrs. Weston suspects Mr. Knightley
Mrs. Weston tells Emma that she suspects Mr. Knightley might be in love with Jane Fairfax. She bases this on his kindness in lending them his carriage and his general admiration for Jane. Emma vehemently rejects the idea, finding it absurd and even distasteful. She cannot bear the thought of Mr. Knightley marrying anyone, especially Jane Fairfax, as it would threaten her own special position in his life and little Henry's inheritance of Donwell.
