A few days after his arrival
Frank Churchill goes to London for a haircut
Frank Churchill suddenly decides to ride to London, a journey of sixteen miles each way, merely to have his hair cut. Emma is disappointed by this frivolous and extravagant act, which seems to betray a lack of seriousness. Mr. Knightley is confirmed in his poor opinion of Frank, calling him a trifling, silly fellow. Mrs. Weston is also slightly troubled, though she tries to excuse it as a young man's whim.
