Jane Confronts Mrs. Reed
After months of cold treatment and isolation, Jane learns that Mr. Brocklehurst, the director of Lowood School, is coming to interview her. Mrs. Reed warns him that Jane is deceitful. After he leaves, Jane, overwhelmed by rage and a sense of injustice, confronts her aunt. She declares she does not love Mrs. Reed and that she is not deceitful. She accuses her aunt of cruelty and says she will tell everyone at Lowood the truth. This outburst marks Jane's first open rebellion and a significant step in her emotional development.
