Adam Rejects Cal's Gift

At a Thanksgiving dinner, Cal presents his father with the fifteen thousand dollars. Adam, who has been serving on the draft board and is haunted by the young men he sends to war, rejects the gift. He tells Cal the money is tainted by war profiteering and that he would rather have a good son than money. Cal is devastated and humiliated.
