Joe Valery's Death
Joe Valery, Kate's pimp, discovers her body and steals her safe-deposit keys and a packet of blackmail photographs. He is picked up by the sheriff for questioning. Fearing exposure, he tries to escape and is shot and killed by a deputy. The sheriff, Horace Quinn, retrieves the photographs and burns them, protecting the reputations of the men involved.
