Samuel's Farewell to Lee from "East of Eden". After telling Adam about Cathy, Samuel rides away with Lee.

The night of his last visit to Adam, 1911

Samuel's Farewell to Lee

After telling Adam about Cathy, Samuel rides away with Lee. On the road, they have a profound conversation about life, death, and the meaning of 'timshel.' Samuel, accepting his own mortality, feels a new sense of peace and purpose. He tells Lee that by telling Adam the truth, he has forced him to live or die. Lee says goodbye, knowing he will never see Samuel again.
