Adam Visits Kate

Adam goes to Kate's brothel in Salinas. He sees her as she really is: a cold, cruel, and twisted woman. He tells her he no longer loves her and that he is free. Kate, enraged, tries to seduce him and then has her pimp beat him. Adam leaves, finally free from the ghost of Cathy. This encounter marks his true emotional recovery.
