Adam is Discharged and Re-enlists

Adam is discharged from the army in 1885 and starts to make his way home. He feels like he is sleepwalking and is reluctant to return to the unpleasant memories of his childhood. In Chicago, he re-enlists in the army, unable to face going home. He is assigned to his old regiment and sent west.
