Cathy, now calling herself Catherine Amesbury, goes to Boston and presents herself to Mr. Edwards, a whoremaster. She is too pretty for his usual business, but he falls hopelessly in love with her. He sets her up in a house and gives her money and presents. Cathy manipulates him, steals from him, and drives him to the brink of madness.
