Adam's Despair and Samuel's Intervention

Adam falls into a deep depression, neglecting his land, his house, and his sons. He refuses to name the twins, calling them only 'they.' Samuel Hamilton visits him and, in a fit of rage, physically assaults Adam, shaking him out of his stupor. Samuel forces Adam to confront his responsibilities and to give his sons names.
