Noah Claypole Joins Fagin's Gang

Noah Claypole and Charlotte, having robbed Mr. Sowerberry, flee to London. They seek shelter at the Three Cripples public house, where Fagin overhears them. Recognizing Noah's potential as a sneaking informer, Fagin recruits him into the gang, giving him the alias 'Mr. Bolter.' Noah is assigned to the 'kinchin lay' (robbing children) and is later tasked by Fagin with spying on Nancy. This subplot introduces a new, despicable character into the criminal world and provides the means for Fagin to discover Nancy's betrayal.
