One evening during Rose's recovery
Oliver Sees Fagin and Monks at the Window
While studying in his room one evening, Oliver falls asleep and has a terrifying dream. He wakes to find Fagin and another man, Monks, peering in at his window. They recognize him, and he recognizes them. Oliver cries out for help, but the men vanish. A search of the grounds reveals no trace of them. This event shatters the peace of the cottage and reintroduces the threat of the criminal world. It also introduces Monks as a mysterious and sinister figure who is connected to Fagin and has a specific interest in Oliver.
