Oliver Recovers at Mr. Brownlow's Home
Oliver is taken to Mr. Brownlow's neat house in Pentonville, where he is nursed back to health by the kind housekeeper, Mrs. Bedwin. He suffers a severe fever and is bedridden for many days. During his recovery, he is drawn to a portrait of a beautiful lady that hangs in the room, feeling a strange, sorrowful connection to it. Mr. Brownlow notices a striking resemblance between Oliver and the portrait. This period of care and kindness is Oliver's first experience of a loving home, and it deepens the mystery of his parentage.
