Oliver Recaptured by Nancy and Sikes

As Oliver walks through Clerkenwell, he is suddenly accosted by Nancy, who pretends to be his sister and claims he has run away from his grieving parents. A crowd gathers, and before Oliver can protest, Bill Sikes appears with his dog, Bull's-eye. Sikes violently seizes Oliver, strikes him, and drags him away through the dark streets. Oliver's cries for help are ignored by the bystanders, who believe the story of the 'wayward boy.' He is forcibly returned to the criminal world, his hopes of a new life with Mr. Brownlow shattered.
