The Goose Raid

Katczinsky and Paul steal two geese from a regimental headquarters. Paul climbs over a wall and is attacked by a bulldog, but he manages to shoot it and escape with the geese. They roast the geese in a secluded lean-to, sharing the feast with Kropp and Tjaden in the clink. The meal is a moment of warmth and camaraderie amidst the harshness of war, strengthening the bond between Paul and Kat.
