The Wounding of Paul and Kropp

While evacuating a village, Paul and Kropp are wounded by a shell. Paul is hit in the leg and arm, and Kropp in the knee. They manage to crawl to a dressing station and are evacuated on a hospital train. Paul manipulates his temperature to stay with Kropp, and they are both sent to a Catholic hospital. The journey is painful, but they are together.
