The Thrashing of Himmelstoss
Paul and his friends, seeking revenge for Himmelstoss's brutal training methods, ambush him one night. They throw a bed-cover over his head, and Haie Westhus beats him severely while Tjaden whips him. The attack is a cathartic release of their pent-up resentment. Himmelstoss never discovers who attacked him, and the incident strengthens the bond among the friends.
