Utterson Identifies the Victim
The police bring the envelope found on the victim to Mr. Utterson, who immediately identifies the body as that of Sir Danvers Carew, a client and a member of Parliament. Utterson recognizes the broken cane as one he himself had given to Henry Jekyll years ago. He leads Inspector Newcomen to Hyde's address in Soho, where they find the rooms ransacked, a burnt cheque book, and the other half of the broken cane. Hyde has fled.
