Utterson Reads Lanyon's Narrative

Mr. Utterson takes the sealed packet home and reads Dr. Lanyon's narrative. It describes how, on January 9th, Lanyon received a frantic letter from Jekyll instructing him to retrieve a drawer from the cabinet and to admit a visitor at midnight. Lanyon complied, and the visitor, a small, grotesque man, mixed a potion and drank it, transforming before Lanyon's eyes into Henry Jekyll. The shock of witnessing this supernatural event destroyed Lanyon's health and led to his death.
