Santiago Wakes and Talks with Manolin

Santiago wakes and drinks the coffee. He tells the boy, 'They beat me, Manolin. They truly beat me.' The boy insists the fish did not beat him, only the sharks. They make plans to fish together again. Santiago asks about the head and the spear, and the boy promises to get a new knife and a killing lance. The old man says he went out too far. The boy cries again as he leaves to get food and medicine.
