Denver seeks help from the community
Realizing that her mother is dying and that Beloved is destroying them, Denver musters the courage to leave 124 and seek help. She first goes to Lady Jones, her former teacher, who gives her food and comfort. Then, following the trail of names left by neighbors who have left food on the stump, Denver begins to reconnect with the community. She eventually secures a job with the Bodwins, a white abolitionist family, which provides her with a small income and a lifeline. Denver's actions mark her transition from a dependent child to a self-reliant young woman.
