Paul D leaves 124

After the confrontation with Sethe, Paul D moves out of 124 and begins sleeping in the cellar of Holy Redeemer Church. He is deeply conflicted, haunted by his own past and by the revelation of Sethe's actions. He feels that he cannot live with a woman capable of such a thing, yet he also cannot forget the love and connection they shared. His departure leaves Sethe and Denver alone again, and the house becomes even more isolated. Paul D's absence creates a void that Beloved quickly fills.
