After the failed assassination attempt
Elphaba Takes Refuge at the Mauntery
After the attack, Elphaba, wounded and in shock, seeks refuge at the Cloister of Saint Glinda. A novice maunt finds her and brings her inside. She is taken in by the community, where she spends the next seven years in silence and penance. She works in the infirmary, tending to the dying. During this time, she is known as Sister Saint Aelphaba. She is eventually visited by a dying Tibbett, who recognizes her and forces her to confront her past. The Superior Maunt eventually tells her it is time to leave and atone for her mistakes. She is given a broom and a small allowance and sent on a journey to the Vinkus.
