Galinda Travels to Shiz

Galinda, a beautiful and wealthy young woman from the Pertha Hills, travels by train to Shiz University to begin her studies at Crage Hall. She is self-absorbed and believes her beauty makes her significant. On the train, she meets Doctor Dillamond, a Goat who is a Fellow of Shiz University. He tries to discuss the Wizard's proposed Banns on Animal travel, but Galinda is dismissive and prejudiced. Their journey is marked by a frosty silence. Upon arriving in Shiz, Galinda is overwhelmed by the city's bustle and the presence of Animals, but she is also determined to make her mark. She is assigned to a dormitory, a social slight she finds deeply embarrassing.
