Frexspar Prepares for Battle

In the minister's lodge near Rush Margins, Frexspar, a unionist minister, prepares for a day of oratory against the Clock of the Time Dragon, a traveling spectacle he considers idolatry. His wife, Melena, is heavily pregnant and believes she will give birth that day. Frex is torn between his duty to his congregation and his wife's needs. He reads letters from a cousin describing the Clock's cruel and prophetic puppet shows, which have been causing social disruption. Frex feels a deep responsibility to protect his flock from this temptation, but he is also anxious about Melena's condition. He leaves for Rush Margins, hoping to return in time for the birth.
