Choosing Roke

Ogion gives Ged a choice: stay with him and learn slowly, or go to the School for Wizards on Roke Island. Ged, yearning for glory and quick power, chooses Roke. Ogion arranges passage for him on a ship called the Shadow. Before parting, Ogion warns Ged not to try any tricks with the sea. Ged boards the ship, feeling forlorn as he watches his master walk away. This decision sets Ged on a path of formal education but also away from the wisdom of silence and patience that Ogion embodies.
