Healing attempt on Ioeth

Pechvarry's young son, Ioeth, falls ill with the red-fever. Ged is called to save him. The child is dying, and Ged, unable to bear his friends' grief, attempts a desperate healing. He sends his spirit out after the child's spirit, pursuing it into the dark land of the dead. He calls the boy's name and sees him running down a dark slope under strange stars. Ged follows too far and finds himself on the boundary between life and death. There, the shadow is waiting for him. It has found him at last.
