Friendship with Vetch

After the humiliation on Roke Knoll, Vetch comes to Ged's cell. He talks about his home in the East Reach and draws maps on the floor with a finger that leaves silver lines. Vetch offers Ged a sure and open friendship, which Ged cannot help but return. This friendship becomes the most important relationship in Ged's life, a source of loyalty and support through all his trials. Vetch's kindness and wisdom are a counterbalance to Ged's pride and Jasper's scorn.
