upon arriving at Roke
Entry to Roke
Ged goes to the Great House of Roke and knocks on a small door. The Doorkeeper tells him to enter if he can, but Ged finds himself unable to pass through the doorway. He tries an Opening spell, but it fails. Finally, the Doorkeeper tells him to say his name. Ged, understanding the gravity of the act, speaks his true name aloud for the first time. He is then able to enter. The door is revealed to be made of a dragon's tooth and horn. This event establishes the importance of names and the power of truth in the world of Earthsea.
